Holmby Hills has been one of Los Angeles most desirable residential neighborhoods. Holmby Hills Real Estate is made up of an area called Little Holmby and Holmby Hills, once known as Holmby Westwood.

The area was all ranch land originally (refer to my history Westwood to learn more). Arthur Letts of the Broadway Dept. Stores originally chose the name Holmby Hills Defined by Sunset Blvd to Wilshire and the Eastern Border of Beverly Hills and Beverly Glen as the Western Border. Little Holmby encompasses the West side of Beverly Glen between Sunset and Wilshire Blvd to Hilgard. When Letts passed away he left the land to his son in Law the Janss family. Janss Investment later sold approx. 373 Acres to UCLA. UCLA was relocated to Westwood Hills and the rest of Holmby Hills was developed. There is a North and South of Sunset area. In the 1920s Janss developed many Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial homes. Ranch style, Mediterranean and Spanish Revival began being built. Thereafter many other styles were built. In the 30’s Warner Ave Elementary School was built. Around 1925 the homes were first being developed. By the 1930’s electrical and telephone wires were situated underground and many of the beautiful trees lining the streets were planted bordering the winding roads .In the 1920’s Hilgard Ave bordering UCLA became Sorority Row.

Some of the most beautiful estates and homes are located in Holmby Hills. The lots are large, mostly behind gates and are many different styles. Paris Hilton, Hugh Hefner, Jaclyn Smith, Lloyd Bridges ,Kirk Douglas ,Armand Hammer, Frank Sinatra, Spencer Tracy, Marlene Dietrich, Olivia De Havilland, Cary Grant, etc. have all lived in the area.

Little Holmby today has so many beautiful architectural homes in Los Angeles. Architects Paul Williams, Richard Neutra, Summer Spaulding, Christopher Ralph, Lloyd Wright, Fredrick Wallis, William Stevenson are some of the many architects who have built homes for the area. You will find homes in Holmby Hills that are Mediterranean, colonial, French country, English country, modern, mid century, ranch, Spanish colonial, Spanish revival, etc.

Holmby Hills is so central to all that Los Angeles has to offer. Holmby Hills is within minutes of Beverly Hills, The Los Angeles Country Club, Century City, Bel Air, UCLA, Brentwood, Cheviot Hills, and Freeway access. As part of Westwood, Holmby hills has a very good public school and access to Westwood Village with grocery stores, restaurants, shopping, theaters, museums, parks ,places of worship, and offices. Holmby Hills luxury homes are close to Holmby Park on the East Side of Beverly Glen. Holmby Park was ceded by Janss with 8.5 acre parcel of land to the city. in 1933 .It is situated between Little Holmby and Holmby Westwood. The park has an 18 hole -Par 54 golf course and Lawn Bowling. The park was later named after Armand Hammer after the founder of Occidental Petroleum whose annual fund maintains the park in perpetuity.
